Dr. Sylvia Chien

Dr. Sylvia Chien, founder of Cantabile Music Studio, is a passionate performer and dedicated educator who brings world-class musicianship into a warm, encouraging learning environment. She has performed internationally in Taiwan, Japan, Austria, and the United States, collaborating with ensembles such as the Miami Symphony Orchestra, Miami Bach Society, and Musica Nova Orchestra, and participating in prestigious festivals including the Bowdoin, Pine Mountain, and Kent Blossom Music Festivals.

Dr. Sylvia’s musical journey began at a young age, earning numerous awards in piano and viola competitions in Taiwan. She holds a Master’s degree from the University of Miami and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Viola Performance from Arizona State University.

What truly sets Dr. Sylvia apart is her belief that every child and adult can succeed in music when guided with patience, structure, and encouragement. With over 20 years of teaching experience, she specializes in nurturing students from age four through adults in violin, viola, and piano, helping each student grow at their own pace while building confidence, focus, and joy in music.

Many of Dr. Sylvia’s students have earned top ratings at UIL Solo & Ensemble competitions, advanced to Region and All-State Orchestras, and become members of the Houston Youth Symphony. As a certified Suzuki violin and piano instructor, she emphasizes a strong foundation in beautiful tone, natural posture, and active listening skills, while fostering a positive and motivating learning experience for both students and parents.

In addition to her private studio, Dr. Sylvia currently serves as a private lesson instructor for Clear Creek ISD, a clinician in Alvin ISD, and Principal Viola of the Clear Lake Symphony. Also, she is a member of the TMTA, MTNA, PMTA, and STXSA. Her teaching reflects a balance of professional excellence, genuine care, and a lifelong love of music.
